Home / Our story

Behind every bed, there is a family's story

Rumah Kediaman Siswa is a small community of Universiti Malaya students who share six houses. This is who we are, where we come from and what we are working towards.

Reaching university is only half the journey

Every one of us earned a place at Universiti Malaya. For many, getting here took a whole family: parents, siblings, sometimes a village.

What comes next is the harder half. Staying. A steady home close to class is often what decides whether a student finishes.

We do not wait for help

Housemates here do not sit and wait. When something needs doing in the house, they do it.

In October 2026 the residents of two houses pooled their own money, bought cleaning supplies and spent a weekend scrubbing, sweeping and clearing drains.

03

A house becomes a home when everyone cares for it

Nobody here chose their housemates. What turns strangers into family is small and daily: a clean kitchen, a swept staircase, a housemate who asks how your day went.

Each house has a PIC, a fellow student who is the first person to turn to.

We do not walk alone

The six houses belong to Universiti Malaya. They are looked after together by the university, Kesatuan Mahasiswa Universiti Malaya and JKRKS, a committee of student volunteers.

Around them stand lecturers, alumni and friends who believe a student in need deserves a fair start.

Yang mereka perlukan hanyalah peluang.

Tomorrow's teachers, engineers, scientists and lawyers live here today.
